Politics should not involve gods, according to the Supreme Court
The Supreme Court had requested Mehta to help decide whether the state-appointed SIT's inquiry should continue or if it should be looked into by an independent agency when it heard the case on September 30 of last month. It had requested that the chief law officer think over the matter and offer assistance in this area. The bench had declared on September 30 that gods had no place in politics. It has questioned Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's assertion in public that Tirupati laddus were purportedly made with animal fat in the previous government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Millions of individuals are impacted by this statement: Supreme Court
According to the supreme court, the laboratory test report is "not at all clear" and suggests that "unapproved ghee" was tested on the surface. The state claimed that a FIR was filed on September 25 and that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was established on September 26 to look into the case; the court had noted this. The bench had stated that it was evident that the chief minister had made a statement on September 18, preceding the filing of the formal complaint on September 25 and the formation of the Special Investigation Team on September 26.
The Supreme Court bench had stated that, in our opinion, it is improper for a high-ranking constitutional official to publicly comment in a way that could hurt the feelings of millions of people, especially while an inquiry was underway to determine whether or not laddus were made with adulterated ghee.
Tirupati laddu dispute heats up politicians
A significant political scandal erupted earlier this month when Naidu asserted that laddus in Tirupati were prepared using animal fat during the previous Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government in the state. Naidu is allegedly creating "hateful allegations" for political advantage, according to the YSR Congress Party.
